Dictionary of Business & Legal Terms: Russian-English / English-Russian

This bilingual legal and business dictionary is the product not only of a perceived demand at the intersection of the Russian and English-speaking legal and business worlds, but, indeed, of the author's own need for a compact reference of this kind. Even before the momentous events of 1989 and 1991, many in the Soviet elite already perceived the long-term futility of the policy of autarchy and isolation which then characterized the so-called Eastern Bloc. Thus the natural effect of glasnost and perestroika was to dramatically accelerate the evolution and sheer volume of commercial and diplomatic relations between the English-speaking and Russian-speaking worlds. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union in the wake of a failed coup in 1991, and the subsequent birth (or rebirth) of fifteen independent nations in its stead, the industrialized English-speaking world has increased its commercial presence in the Russian-speaking world more than anyone could have predicted even a decade ago. And notwithstanding the ongoing political and economic upheaval in varying degrees in each of the new nations of the former Soviet Union, real commercial, diplomatic and judicial integration with the western industrialized world is advancing palpably.
